 One of the most frequent questions about old
typewriters that I am asked is: when was a particular model
manufactured? This page lists the approximate year of
introduction of many different typewriters that were
manufactured during the "Golden Age" of typewriters.
The list begins in 1873 with the first commercially successful
writing machine, hence the beginning of the great typewriter
industry. The list diminishes in the 1930s, by which time, the
modern typewriter, as we knew it, differed very little in
design from one manufacturer to another.
